Hitachi has again tried to revitalize the markets with its highest density, single-platter hard disk drive that has an areal density of 636Gbit/inch. This density is 100Gbit per square inch greater than its competitor. This hard disk drive has, therefore emerged out to be the highest capacity, single platter drive in the whole industry. Hitachi’s 2.5-in 5,400 RPM Travelstar Z5K500 laptop drive is merely 7mm in height.
In his statement, the vice president of product marketing at Hitachi GST, Brendan Collins said, “Ultra thin and light devices are, without argument, a growing trend. In order for these innovative designs to live up to their true potential, they need rugged, reliable high-capacity hard drives that can withstand the rigors of a portable environment and satisfy the storage demands of their end users, and Hitachi continues to deliver.” The Travelstar Z5K500 is available in three models, 250GB, 320 GB and 500 GB.
Hitachi’s Travelstar comes jam-packed with 8MB cache and a Serial ATA (SATA) 3Gbit/sec interface. He drives are good for system manufacturers who make use of thinner drivers to make a distinction in the product line by making use of space savings to generate thinner devices, develop internal airflow, amplify shock strength or add battery competence.
